Job Description:
Summary The Youth Softball Clinic Instructor is responsible for
the instruction of fundamentals for Champaign Park District's Youth
Softball Clinics. The clinics are for children ages 5-11. Clinic
plans are prepared by full-time staff and reviewed with instructors
prior to leading sessions. Instructors with coaching or playing
experience are preferred. Clinics will run from mid September to
early October and late February to March. Instructors will need to
focus heavily on communication and fundamentals with athletes.
Instructors should have a positive attitude, work well with kids,
and have good classroom management and communication skills.
Instructors must be CPR certified, or be able to obtain
certification prior to clinic start. Qualifications Must be at
least 16 years old An interest and enthusiasm for and developing
fitness skills in children Knowledge of basic athletic skills and
rules Ability to maintain a working relationship with staff and
public Experience working with children 3 to 13 years old is
recommended, but not required Positive can-do team attitude
Supervision The Youth Softball Clinic Instructor reports directly
to the Sports Coordinator. Training - can be obtained through
Champaign Park District Bloodborne pathogen training Facility
training Harassment prevention training CPR, First Aid, and AED
training within 2 weeks of being hired Concussion training within 2
weeks of being hired Classification Non-Exempt, Hourly position
Seasonal or Part-Time (part-time is year-round, 20 hrs/week)
Essential Functions Follow prepared lesson plans Follow all
Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a
manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and
self Instruct participants during drills and scrimmages to improve
player fundamentals Maintain an accurate attendance log of every
session Maintain a safe recreational environment Thoroughly
complete accident, incident, and other reports as necessary and
submit the same day Enforce Park District policies and procedures
Check all equipment and supplies and report necessary repairs to
Sports Coordinator Ensure care and return of all Champaign Park
District equipment Wear a Champaign Park District staff shirt or
jacket during working hours Relay comments from participants and
spectators to supervisor Other duties as assigned Marginal
Functions Attend all required meetings Psychological Considerations
Respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the
policies and procedures of the Park District Adjust teaching to
meet needs of individual children Physiological Considerations Lift
and carry supplies up to 20 pounds Running, stretching, jumping and
other team sports-related movements required Must be able to be
physically active to administer CPR and First Aid as necessary
Environmental Considerations May be exposed to all weather
conditions especially extreme heat and sun Cognitive Considerations
Must be able to work well with people, resolve problems fairly and
with judgment in keeping with the mission of the district Should
exercise creativity and resourcefulness in developing and
implementing projects Must be able to respond quickly and
accurately in emergency situations Must understand oral and written
communication Should be safety conscious at all times
