Job Summary
The Career Coach and Assistant Director role is multi-faceted with responsibility for individual career coaching, coordinating career development programs and workshops, and fostering relationships with key campus partners to enhance the career readiness of students. The role also includes supervising paraprofessional student staff who deliver peer-to-peer services, workshops, and programs.

The Assistant Director is part of a collaborative and innovative team committed to career development and success of all Illinois students. They must be passionate about interacting with students, thrive in a team environment, and be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Duties & Responsibilities Direct Service to Students--- Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and planning, employment/internship search, and graduate school preparation and application
--- Develop and implement career development programs that empower career choice and action, as well as enhance the career readiness of students
--- Advise and coach pre-health students as they explore, prepare for, and apply to health professions programs, such as medical/dental/pharmacy schoolOutreach and Engagement with Key Stakeholders--- Collaborate with campus partners to deliver career development services and programs
--- Develop, maintain, and actively cultivate relationships with campus partners who contribute to career development services and programs
--- Oversee the planning and execution ofevents, such as open houses, orientation programs, or other similar activities, that build awareness of The Career Center and the services and resources it provides
--- Deploy outreach strategies to engage historically excluded and marginalized students
--- Contribute to development and implementation of collaborative student-facing career development initiatives in partnership with the broader career services or advising community at IllinoisSupervision, Administrative and Management--- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise paraprofessional student staff who deliver peer-to-peer services, workshops, and programs
--- Assess, analyze, and report on engagement and impact of services and programs and facilitate continuous improvement
--- Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources
--- Create and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences, including parents, campus partners and external colleagues about The Career Center
--- Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees
--- Participate in professional development activities and associations

Qualifications Required Education and Experience---Bachelor's degree
---One year experience in student programming or student career development in an academic environment (may include work experience as a graduate assistant or in practicum)
---Experience -creating and facilitating educational programs, workshops, and/or delivering public presentations
---Experience -working with diverse populations and knowledge of cultural differences
---Experience working in a collaborative team environmentMaster's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience. -Preferred Education and Experience--- Master's degree
--- Educational background in counseling, education, student affairs, human resources or related field
--- Credentialed as a career coach or counselor through one of the national career development organizations
--- Experience in higher education, career coaching/advising, and/or working with college students
--- Experience that demonstrates understanding of career and student development theory and practice
--- Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships
--- Experience planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating educational programs
--- Experience that demonstrates knowledge of coaching or advising practices, college recruiting practices, hiring practices, and/or career services management systemsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities--- Excellent verbal, public speaking, writing, and listening skills with ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas
--- Openness, inclusiveness, sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to interact with all people, understand individual differences, and relate with a diverse student population
--- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues and make data-informed decisions
--- Demonstrate personal accountability, effective work habits, and ability to handle multiple work priorities
--- Ability to work within a team structure while leveraging the strengths of others to achieve common goals
--- Ability to build and sustain relationships with colleagues and stakeholdersAppointment Information
