Job Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible to lead labor relations activities as well as people and performance initiatives for assigned locations. This role partners with corporate and field leadership to develop HR strategies in support of business growth through the identification of best practice objectives surrounding performance management, policies and procedures, talent development and culture. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Serve as Company chief spokesperson for all union contract negotiations
  • Negotiate labor agreements through the development of comprehensive bargaining strategies and proposals in partnership with corporate Human Resources and local leadership
  • Interpret labor relations agreements by responding to questions, through written interpretive letters and memos and by responding to Union inquiries and requests
  • Oversee and lead HR Teams for assigned locations, p artnering with HR team to effectively implement Human Resources initiatives, providing guidance and support locally to ensure consistent, timely, and accurate application in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Drive accurate and timely completion of HR processes including performance management, training and employee engagement
  • Guide and assist assigned locations' HR Managers with conflict/ issue resolution and investigations; provide guidance to employees and management in exploring alternative methods for resolution of work-related problems affecting the employer-employee relationship
  • Develop sustainable relationships with leadership to facilitate effective dialogue to address and resolve issues and proactively implement effective workplace practices
  • Partner with location leaders to identify and develop high potential individuals; focus on succession planning, talent development and performance management tools and utilization
  • Coordinate and participate in labor relations activities including meeting organization, development of negotiation strategies and participation in negotiations
  • Partnering with corporate Human Resources, develop training programs, systems, tools, and resources, incorporating best practices, to serve as resources to leadership to support the creation of alignment, consistent application and accountability surrounding human resources and labor relations programs
  • Provide leadership and materials for pre/ post-petition union campaigns, including leading the management team during organizing campaigns
  • Develop formal education and training in Human Resources topics and the Labor Management partnership for managers, supervisors, employees and Human Resources staff to ensure consistency throughout organization
  • Assist legal counsel with NLRB cases, employment-related litigation and other formal employee related actions
  • Mentor/coach employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvement
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • This role is a Leader of Leaders role with required competencies: Strategic Agility, Business Acumen, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focus and Command Skills EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelors' degree in Human Resources, Business, Labor Relations or other related discipline from an accredited institution
      • PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP preferred EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
        • Minimum seven (7) years' significant labor management experience in both union and non-union environments; experience in a multiple union organizations preferred
        • Experience in leading/organizing campaigns in the field, advancing practices and policies designed to promote employee engagement, company values and overseeing collective bargaining
        • Demonstrated management and leadership experience including policy adherence, conflict resolution and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively; experience in managing multiple locations preferred
        • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel
        • Must have exceptional communication, both verbal and written, attention to detail and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively
        • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
        • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
        • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
          • Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
          • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
            • Frequently sit for long periods of time utilizing office equipment and/or computers
