Position Summary:




The Sustainability and Energy Manager is responsible for supporting Carle Health's environmental stewardship including the development of programs, plans and policies that meet the health system's sustainability commitments and directs their implementation. This multifaceted role helps position Carle Health as a leader in environmental sustainability with the goal of upholding national environmental standards and best practices. The Sustainability and Energy Manager, while reporting to the VP of Facilities & Construction will lead initiatives throughout the entire health system.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
US Green Building Council LEED Green Associate Certification upon hire and Certified Energy Manager within 1 year.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 3 years of sustainability experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
* Has extensive knowledge of local, regional, and national emerging sustainable business strategies, life cycle assessments (LCA), ROI analysis, and other key sustainability tools and techniques* Has organizational skills, time management skills, self-motivation, project management experience, and priority setting skills* Has experience in change management and continuous quality improvement* Has strong project management skills* Manage energy benchmarking and assessment and analyze energy consumption metrics in comparison to Practice Greenhealth top performers * Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills* Excellent presentation, verbal, and written skills * Has working knowledge of building automation and control systems










Essential Functions:




  • Collaborate with appropriate departments to develop and carry out a strategy to merge aspects of environmental sustainability and community benefit and/or resilience
  • Continually assess and analyzes the organization's current practices and identify opportunities for improvement in environmental sustainability and energy management
  • Establish, set targets for, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify progress on important sustainability metrics including the eleven key focus areas from Practice Greenhealth. Reports progress quarterly to the system board.
  • Develop policies and procedures for areas including but not limited to the following; materials and waste, safer chemicals, environmentally preferable purchasing, transportation, energy, water, climate, and healthy foods
  • Chairs the Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship Council
  • Report sustainability progress to the executive team and the board of directors
  • Collaborate with the company's internal groups (e.g., plant operations, facilities, environmental health and safety, marketing, and health professional representation) for the development and implementation of initiatives in support of the sustainability strategy
  • Lead and promote sustainability engagement activities through tools, education, and training to increase awareness among staff members, patients, and the community
  • Collaborate with the marketing and/or communications department on a comprehensive communications strategy
    • Manage the identification and prioritization of energy capital projects, operational changes, and physical plant upgrades that result in reduced energy consumption
    • Develop various reports for site management and regulatory groups
    • Identify local, regional and/or national grants/rebates to support energy and water projects including available incentives and rebates which could significantly influence projects and funding decisions
    • Develop an energy and water management plan with reduction targets and tracking
