External description: The Radiation Therapist will assist with the
daily patient flow of the Radiation Oncology clinical location,
evaluate/develop new process for patient care, and assisting with
other activities to improve Radiation Oncology operations.
According to established procedures, assists physicians by treating
patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and
controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so,
prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions
patients and administers treatments. Monitors patients during
therapy sessions in order to ensure patients' comfort and to
observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment
according to the treatment plan and delivers prescribed doses of
ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized
radiation equipment. Designs and constructs custom treatment
devices for individual patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and
skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the
ages of the patients served. Required qualifications: Current
licensure with IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety and registry or
registry eligible with ARRT within 6 months of hire. 2 year
training program in Radiation Therapy. Knowledge of radiation
therapy procedures and equipment operation, and of physics and
patience care techniques at a level acquired through an approved
program in radiation therapy technology, usually lasting one year
beyond radiography training. Interpersonal skills necessary in
order to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, allied
health personnel, and other Medical Center personnel when
explaining procedures and gathering and exchanging patient-related
