The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as a Human Resources Specialist in the Human Resources Department.-- Responsibilities of Position This position performs a variety of professional duties in support of a public human resources system. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: administration of compensation systems; maintaining HRIS/payroll system information; conducting research, analysis, and reporting; administering organization-wide training; interpreting and applying rules, procedures, and provisions of collective bargaining agreements to resolve problems and advise others; providing responsive and proactive customer service over email, telephone, and in-person to resolve programs related to HR services; and assisting with the development and administration of HR programs and activities. A bachelor---s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, or a related field. Three or more years of experience with compensation, payroll, HRIS administration, and/or training. An equivalent combination of work experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.-- Knowledge of HR functions, best practices, laws, and regulations in a variety of areas including payroll, compensation, and labor. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of and ability to apply high quality customer service standards. Ability to analyze data and make appropriate conclusions and recommendations bases on analysis. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to collaborate with others, share information, and accept feedback. Ability/willingness to adapt to change and strive for continuous improvement. Willingness to learn and perform a variety of assigned tasks. Tact, courtesy, dependability, thoroughness, and attention to details. Preferred Qualifications
Professional work experience in a public or municipal agency. Master---s degree and/or HR certification. Drug screening and criminal background check will be required.
