Description: Assistant Information Technology Specialist Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts & Sciences College of Liberal Arts & Sciences University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The Assistant Information Technology Specialist will provide customer service for academic, research, and administrative employees, to gather information about technical problems or processes, take corrective action, and when necessary escalate problems as appropriate. As well as research, procure and setup computing hardware and software, as well as, provide helpdesk services for all ATLAS Classrooms and processes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Support Troubleshoot and support classroom technology which include, but not limited to, A/V, projectors, computers, and virtual reality. Promote excellent customer service, maintaining strong relationships with the user community, and setting/managing expectations of customers. Analyze functional and performance issues, offering solutions, and implementing corrective actions. Resolve IT problems with limited supervision escalating when appropriate. Acting as a technical and institutional resource. Maintain on-going evaluations of administrative applications. Manage IT Processes Assist in the planning, research, purchasing and installation of IT systems and products (hardware/software deployment). Manage ATLAS assets and the asset lifecycle, which includes but not limited to, purchase request, purchasing, inventory, audits, and surplus/disposal. Aid in the implementation of business process improvement (BPI) applications. Develop and manage administrative processes using technical applications. Liaison between technology, administrative, and application development teams. Create and maintain necessary documentation and knowledgebase. Help Desk Manage the ATLAS Classrooms Help Desk including supervision, scheduling, and hiring of student employees. Concierge to instructors and provide assistance as it relates to classroom technology, facilities, and any other tech related effort QUALIFICATIONS Required Education: Bachelor's degree Required Experience : One year of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession. Preferred Expereince: One year of technical support experience. One year of customer service experience. Successful candidates will have: Ability to learn new tools and techniques to integrate new technology Technically skilled with all common user applications, such as Internet browsers, word processors, and email Independent problem solving skills and an ability to fully diagnose, troubleshoot technical issues Demonstrate ability to perform assigned work independently and escalate appropriately Proven ability to work independently and on a team Strong written and verbal communication skills Preference for the following: Experience maintaining inventory of technical systems. Experience in process improvement and project management. SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a full-time Civil Service IT Support Associate position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
