Associate Director for Administrative and Business Affairs School of Molecular and Cellular Biology College of Liberal Arts and Sciences University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign The Associate Director for Administrative and Business Affairs will oversee day-to-day functions of the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology administration including procurement, human resources, grants management, fiscal management, facility management and Life Sciences shared services. The Associate Director will also provide consultation and advice to School Director, School Associate Directors, Departmental Executive Officers, departmental administrative support personnel and faculty for any matter that intersects oversight areas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic consultation and advisory Advisor and counselor to the School Director, Associate Directors (Graduate and Undergraduate Programs), Department Heads (Biochemistry, Biophysics and Computation Biophysics, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Microbiology and Molecular and Integrative Physiology) and department administrative staff on operations and policy matters. Analyze financial and operational information in order to assess overall performance of the school. Provide direction and administrative oversight on behalf of the school for life sciences shared services. Policy interpretation and compliance implementation Direct implementation and adoption of data systems with goals of resource optimization and/or compliance maintenance of university or federal policies. Establish and administer internal policies and procedures consistent with campus standards to assure efficient, effective use of school financial and administrative resources and to facilitate the smooth operation of the school. Oversee submission of and implementation of the campus Activity Reporting System for all employee groups of the School of MCB and its academic departments. Represent the School and Departments on all internal and external audits. Implement compliance and procedures identified as concerns. Supervision Supervise grants management staff (4 direct) procurement staff (1 direct) human resources and office administration staff (1 direct) facility management and safety staff (1 direct) shared services staff (6 direct) [supervision duties include or may be delegated: hire, train, assign/review work, conduct performance evaluations, address work issues, approve time, set work schedules, set goals]. Service Represent the School on issues related to administrative issues.Member of the Business Affairs Subcommittee of the Campus Business Managers Group.Serve on search committees for positions that critically align with school strategic goals. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor's Degree. Five years operational and business administrative experience in a complex university setting. Minimum three years supervisory experience. Experience providing strategic consultation. Preferred: Master's degree in biological sciences, business administration, finance or accountancy. Minimum seven or more years of administrative experience including oversight in one or more of the following areas: human resources (including personnel issues), procurement, grants management, facility management. Successful candidates will have the following: Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills. Demonstrated strong organizational and analytical abilities. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, navigate complex policies and resource constraints in creative administrative problem solving. Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, confidentiality, discretion, and sound independent judgement. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, staff, alumni, external sponsors, vendors, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of PC-based tools including Word and Excel. Extensive knowledge of UIUC procedures related to financial and human resources management, administration standards and practices. Extensive knowledge of university BANNER and data systems and campus financial and human resources policies. Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
