Digital Media SpecialistMechanical Science and
EngineeringUniversity of Illinois Urbana-ChampaignThe Department of
Mechanical Science and Engineering consistently ranked in the top 6
programs in the nation is seeking qualified candidates for the
full-time position of Digital Media Specialist. This position will
support the department's marketing communications goals through the
creation of engaging photography and videography as well as the
development of its social media channels.Job Summary:Responsible
for conceiving and creating marketing materials to support the
MechSE and the Grainger College of Engineering brand, informing,
and engaging target audiences and supporting department goals,
initiatives, and strategic plans. Supporting the array of general
marketing activities of the department through videography,
photography, and social media.Duties and Responsibilities:Video
Production and Post-ProductionServe as team lead for video
projects, working with campus and college resources and other team
members to execute.Propose and strategize ideas and topics for
videos that communicate the initiatives and brand promise of the
Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering.Set and maintain a
production schedule prior to shoot, set up including lighting,
sound and other technical details.Record material for content using
professional video cameras and still cameras and perform editing
using appropriate software.Design after-effects as needed including
motion graphics, layout, and animationUtilize video script writing
fundamentals.Produce creative and engaging video content. This
includes all facets of video production, pre- through
post-production, including planning, concept and storyboard
development, script development, sound and lighting set-up,
filming, editing, and archiving.Prepare video for multimedia
formats including web and other digital distribution media; ensure
all materials meet the needs of varying audience ability using
captioning and other forms as needed.Encode and archive online
videos, track video analytics.Build and maintain a video library
and manage content.Be a collaborative and contributing member of
the team, working within The Grainger College of Engineering and
University of Illinois brand and messaging framework.Research
emerging trends in video production and social media to consider
new and interesting ways to use digital
platforms.PhotographyProvide professional-level photos in
department facilities such as research labs and classrooms, and at
events that serve departmental initiatives and marketing
activities.Serve as team lead for photo shoots, working with
department team members to execute.Propose and strategize ideas for
photos that communicate the initiatives and brand promise of the
Department of Mechanical Science and EngineeringRespond to direct
requests from department faculty, staff, and students to take
photos of people, places, and events.Build upon and maintain the
department's photo library.Social Media ManagerCreate new and
interesting ways to use storytelling techniques on social media to
communicate MechSE's key messagesOversee social media campaigns and
creatively enhance engagement efforts with key audiences to
increase followers and more consistent engagementUse metrics to
measure the impact of social media efforts, make recommendations
based on that data, and experiment to ensure maximum impact.Evening
and weekend work as necessaryPerform other related duties as
assigned to further the mission of the unit.Qualifications:Minimum
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in film/video production,
cinematography, radio and television, documentary film production,
photojournalism, broadcast journalism, communications, graphic
design, or a closely related field to the position. One (1) year
(12 months) of professional work experience in areas including
non-linear video editing, motion graphics, video lighting and
composition, camera operation, graphics design, audio recording,
video production, or a closely related professional area. Master's
Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be
substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work
experiencePreferred Qualifications: Experience with data analysis
and market research, familiarity with content management systems.
Experience with location video shooting; developing and maintaining
digital media content at Illinois or other higher education
academic environment, creating and editing documentation;
participating in diverse workgroups.Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:Working knowledge of publishing applications and software
such as Adobe CS (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere,) and
Motion Graphics with Adobe After Effects; Experience or
understanding of the studio environment, recording video, or
webinars.Proficiency with audio/video tools and skills including
video and audio editing software (primarily Adobe products); Still
image editing and manipulation for video delivery (primarily Adobe
products); Video lighting; Audio mixing; Basic video color
correction; Green screen and other keying techniquesAbility to move
quickly and flexibly, work on projects simultaneously, meet
deadlines, and use good judgment to manage complex situationsStay
informed on current marketing trends and new technologyAppointment
Information:This is a 100% full-time exempt civil service
Cinema/Creative Video Producer position, appointed on a 12-month
basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the
