PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY: The Student Sustainability Committee Coordinator will advise, coordinate, and execute co-curricular programs relating to sustainability, primarily focusing on the Student Sustainability Committee (SSC), its applicants, and its awardees. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION & STUDENT SUPERVISION Identify sustainability initiatives and research projects, assess costs of projects, and technical feasibility; create detailed experimental plan and work with departments or committees to implement project plans. Contribute to Illinois climate commitments as time permits. Independently support the Student Sustainability Committee's funding allocation process, including research proposal submissions and evaluations, applicant communication and notifications, partnerships with stakeholders, record keeping, and report writing. Administer over $1M in financial awards; approve funds on behalf of the SSC, disburse funds, and provide financial oversight to ensure awardees are within the project scope, schedule, and budget. Prepare financial, quarterly, and other reports for SSC stakeholders. Maintain all funding records, project documents, and other relevant materials to meet audit requirements. Supervise and coordinate the work of sustainability intern(s) and/or other student employees. Advise and mentor student leaders, using student development theory when appropriate, in iSEE-affiliated groups, like SSC and the Student Sustainability Leadership Council, and act as the staff advisor for students implementing campus sustainability projects. Partner with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to develop meaningful co-curricular sustainability leadership programming for student leaders, such as the Fall leadership retreat. MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS Oversee and maintain the SSC website. This includes keeping content updated and adjusting the design of the site, as needed Publicize the work of the SSC, including posting minutes on the iCAP Portal, adding funded projects to the related website(s), and publicizing final results and impacts of projects funded by SSC. Lead and coordinate communications and marketing efforts for SSC. This includes social media outreach, as well as, in person events. Plan and orchestrate campus sustainability events, such as October's Sustainability Week, and SSC activities, such as facility tours or film screenings. Build and maintain partnerships across campus, especially within iSEE and the Illini Student Union, to advance SSC's mission. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Maintain a thorough knowledge of University of Illinois administrative policies and procedures. Serve as the primary point of contact for the Student Sustainability Committee policy/procedural questions. Assume additional duties to further SSC's mission and Illinois climate commitments. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Required: Bachelor's degree Preferred : Bachelor's degree in academic advising or sustainability field. Master's degree, preferably in an academic advising or sustainability field. Experience : Required: One year of cumulative graduate work or professional experience in student affairs, environmental stewardship, sustainability, or student development. Preferred : Academic or professional demonstrated experience in marketing, outreach, grant writing, and/or public relations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Evidence of leadership and self-motivation. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders. Project or program management skills in planning, executing, and evaluating. Knowledge of financial management, such as budgeting and tracking. Familiarity with Wordpress or other related Content Management Systems. Ability to plan and execute mid-scale events with little direct oversight. Environmental Demands: Work is mostly sedentary in nature, but can include weekend or evening hours and some minor physical labor such as sorting recycled materials during research outings.
