Position Summary:
The Telecommunicator is responsible for dispatching Arrow ambulances to emergency and non-emergency patient requests. Schedules transfers, sets up customers on the Arrow billing system, and answers all phone lines. This position also assists the patient account representative and administrative assistant in preparing and processing reports as needed.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS H.S. Diploma/GED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS EMD training SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of radio operations. Knowledge of medical terminology. Good oral and written communication skills. Computer and keyboarding skills
Essential Functions:
+ Answers incoming phone calls and diverts them to the appropriate personnel.
+ Enters patient demographic and billing information on all patients scheduled for non-emergency transports.
+ Keeps all logs current and run tickets in order.
+ Monitors the location of all Arrow ambulance units and sends the closest available unit to emergency requests.
+ Receives incoming emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance services, obtains the patient information needed to dispatch the call (such as name, address, callback number, patient condition/problem, etc.), dispatches the appropriate ambulance, provides pre-arrival instructions as appropriate, and notifies METCAD and other agencies as appropriate.
+ Schedules non-emergency transfers so that utilization of units and personnel is enhanced and so that conflicts in scheduling do not occur (such as coordinating more transfers at one time than we have personnel/equipment to handle appropriately).
+ Continuley monitors and distributes resources as need. To facilitate meeting our response times.
